Welfare for a 400-person plant, built wet-first

Changing, showers, drying and mess facilities replacing a portable-cabin arrangement that had been temporary for nine years.

  • Gross internal area
    390 m²
  • People served
    400
  • Contract to handover
    12 weeks
  • On site
    9 days

The problem

Nine years of temporary cabins on a site running three shifts. Any replacement had to be installed without stopping production or leaving a shift without facilities.

What we did

The new building went up on a different part of the yard while the cabins stayed in use, then the changeover happened over a single weekend shutdown. Nine days on site in total, one of them disruptive.

Wet areas were tanked and flood-tested in the factory. Falls were set in the floor cassette rather than chased into a screed, which is the failure that had made the cabins unusable in the first place.
